Outdoor Attractions

Vineyards and Breweries

Visit any one of Maryland’s beautiful vineyards to soak in the views, enjoy a sample of their offerings in the tasting rooms, listen to live music, take a tour or participate in a festive event. The atmosphere will have you never wanting to leave. There’s also a great selection of craft beers at some of the local breweries. Stop by to sip some old favorites or try a new experimental.

Urban Adventures

Experience some of Maryland’s natural sights by taking a scenic hike, run or bike on more than 60 miles of trails along the Anacostia Tributary Trail System which connects northern Prince George’s County to the nations capital. Lake Artemesia in College Park is near to loads of great restaurants and about 5 miles to Bladensburg Waterfront Park, where you can rent a kayak or take a boat tour on the Anacostia River. Want to venture farther? The nearby Northeast Branch Trail connects with other trails and runs through various neighborhoods in suburban Maryland, Washington DC and even into Northern Virginia.

Wildlife

Take in an early morning bird-watching tour with an expert, enjoy a 5-mile hike through the woods or even take a 30-minute guided tram tour of its forest, meadows and wetlands at the Patuxent Research Refuge, the nation’s only wildlife refuge established for research. With over 12,000 acres of land, the refuge supports a wide variety of wildlife in different habitats to maintain biological diversity for the protection and benefit of native and migratory species.

Golf

Book a tee time or two at an array of area golf courses. Golf is a great way to get some exercise while also being able to enjoy fresh air, incredible views, the company of friends and family, and the thrill of making the perfect shot. If something different is what you have in mind, visit Calvert Road Disc Golf Course where players can throw a disc at a target; it is played using rules similar to golf.

Clay Target Shooting

Practice your shooting skills at the Prince George’s Trap and Skeet Center, a premier shotgun clay target shooting facility offering instruction and safety classes for all ages. Their large modern facilities provide fun and challenging games for beginner to experienced shooters.
